In some high-energy demand sectors, notably parts of transport and industry sectors, it is hard to decarbonise energy sources by direct electrification. For these sectors, decarbonised gases and liquids may to do the job, with renewable and possibly low-carbon hydrogen playing a pivotal role as feedstock and fuel.
Our goals:
- Provide a coordinated, harmonised approach to address sustainable production, transport, storage and use of decarbonised gases and liquid fuels including hydrogen-derived liquid fuels or gas of sustainable biological origins hydrogen-derived liquid fuels
- Assess market arrangements, R&I and standardisation, infrastructure and security of supply of decarbonised gases and liquid fuels
- Develop methods for the assessment and certification of green-house gas emission and environmental footprint and benchmarking against other options for decarbonisation
We are working with other departments (directorate general):
Global challenges:
- climate, energy and mobility
Impact area:
- Affordable and clean energy
