Molten Salt Reactors (MSR) are experiencing high interest among EU industrial partners, including major nuclear fuel producing companies and several start-up companies from various European countries.
As nuclear technology is mentioned as an alternative low carbon energy source in the Net Zero Industry act, the EU will be in need of novel nuclear technologies that meet standards for safety and security and are accessible in the market.
This workshop aims to accelerate the market uptake of Molten Salt Reactors by tapping into the European research and innovation community to evaluate if certain aspects in the R&D have achieved maturity and where standardisation could be beneficial. In addition the workshop also aims to identify the key steps in the Molten Salt Reactor technology that require still pre-normative research.
The workshop follows following objectives:
Collect Stakeholders' Needs and Prioritize Standardization Areas:
- Gather additional input from research and industrial partners to complement a gap analysis. Identify stakeholders' needs and define future standardization priorities in areas such as measurements of thermo-physical properties, code development, materials (fabrication, welding, testing, non-destructive examination), components, and licensing.
Promote Scientific Community Participation in Standardization:
- Encourage active involvement of the scientific community in future standardization activities related to Molten Salt Reactors. Explore ways to foster collaboration between researchers, innovators, and industrial partners to contribute to the ongoing development of standardized practices for MSR technology.
