In 2020, JRC and DG RTD initiated a pilot project titled "Open access to JRC research infrastructure for nuclear safety and security research." This project seeks to make JRC's nuclear infrastructure accessible to the Euratom research community. Scientists from Member States receive financial support from DG RTD to facilitate experimental research in JRC laboratories.
The workshop co-organised with DG RTD will take place on the 19 and 20 June in Brussels at the Breydel building. This event aims to showcase achievements, emphasizing successes and lessons learned. The event will also highlight the effective partnership between JRC and DG-RTD that has been pivotal in enabling external users to access JRC nuclear research facilities, as well as in providing financial assistance for their travel and living expenses, thereby advancing the shared objective of propelling European nuclear research and education forward.

The workshop is structured in 2 half-day sessions around the following objectives:
On the first day, we will disseminate information regarding the benefits of the program, shedding light on the collaborative efforts between JRC and DG RTD. Additionally, we will provide a comprehensive overview of the project, emphasizing its advantages for both European researchers and Member States. Furthermore, we seek to foster active participation in the project among attendees.
Moving to the second day, our focus will shift towards a detailed exploration of the 11 nuclear laboratories where Open Access was made possible. Through showcasing testimonials, we aim to provide first-hand insights into the experiences of participants in our laboratories.
