Education and employment authorities, organisations, companies and citizens from EU Member States count today with specific tools to improve and streamline Digital and Entrepreneurial skills.
DigComp describes what digital competence is and groups the competences in five areas. Its latest version, DigComp 2.1, describes those competences across eight proficiency levels, from foundation/beginner to highly specialised, and offers examples of use applied to employment and education in the form of infographics and visual guides. It was presented today at an event in Brussels where organisations from across Europe explained their own initiatives based on these competence frameworks. The Entrepreneurship Competence Framework, EntreComp, describes and breaks down entrepreneurship as a transversal competence useful to all spheres of life.
At today's event, we learnt from initiatives such as transforming prison education to improve the employability opportunities of inmates brought by SFEDI Group. Or a massive online open course (MOOC) on Boosting a Sense of Initiative targeted to European primary and secondary school teachers, developed and delivered by European Schoolnet. Regarding digital competences, INTEF of the Spanish Ministry of Education, explained their framework to improve the teachers level of digital competence, as well as their portfolio of MOOCs and tools to inform and certify teachers' digital competence. From France, we knew of PIX, an assessment instrument to evaluate digital competence.
Background
DigComp was developed by the JRC as a scientific project and with intensive consultation of stakeholders, initially on behalf of the Commission's Directorate-General (DG) for Education and Culture, and more recently, on behalf of DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion. First published in 2013, DigComp has become a reference for the development and strategic planning of digital competence initiatives both at European and Member State level.
On behalf of DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, the JRC has also developed a definition of entrepreneurship as a competence and a reference framework describing it, the Entrepreneurship Competence Framework (EntreComp).
By producing a common definition of what entrepreneurship as a competence is, the EntreComp aims to establish a bridge between the worlds of education and work and to be taken as a reference de facto by any initiative which aims to foster entrepreneurial learning.
