JRC at the EU Sustainable Energy Week

Under the theme “Accelerating the clean energy transition – towards lower bills and greater skills”, the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2023 will take place in Brussels and online on 20-22 June 2023.

JRC is participating both in the policy conference and in the Energy Fair. Where can you meet our experts?

  • In the policy conference

20 June, 16:30 - 18:00 // Inclusivity and the clean energy transition: the skills perspective

In an effort to enrich the policy discussion this session will bring together thematic areas, often separated, highlighting among others potential synergies between the clean energy policies, the European Green Deal, the EU Skills Agenda, the EU Gender Action Plan, and the EU Youth Strategy. Expert contributions and exchanges with the audience will touch upon sectoral general trends and socio-economic implications, skills demanded in the labour market of renewable energies and inclusion aspects (from the perspective of gender, regions and youth).

21 June, 9:30 - 11:00 // Heat pumps: stepping up the decarbonisation of the EU’s building sector

This session will discuss the challenges related to doubling the installation rate of heat pumps in the EU, as set out in REPowerEU. Speakers will be drawn from the JRC and DG ENER along with leading research organisations in the field, including IFEU (Institut für Energie- und Umweltforschung) and RAP (Regulatory Assistance Project), and introduced by Mechthild Wörsdörfer. We plan to launch our major Heat Pumps study to coincide with the event.

JRC speakers: Vangelis Tzimas, Johan Carlsson, Agne Toleikyte, Jonathan Volt
Session: EUSEW Interactive

21 June, 11:30 – 13:00 // Strengthening Energy Efficiency for the clean energy transition and energy independence.

The session will present and debate the latest results of the Energy Efficiency Financial Institutions Group (EEFIG) working groups. It will be the final event of EEFIG and will make the bridge with the upcoming Energy Efficiency Financing Coalition.

JRC speaker: Nives della Valle

22 June, 14:00 - 15:30 // Revision of the Strategic Energy Technology Plan: boosting skills and competitiveness in clean energy technologies

This session, organised jointly by the JRC with DGs ENER and RTD, aims to raise awareness about the need to accelerate research and innovation in energy, and to foreground the revised Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET) Plan. The first part will address the SET Plan revision, and the second will address skills needs in clean energy R&I. Speakers will be drawn from all three DGs, along with representatives of international organisations and stakeholders.

  • At the Energy Fair

At the stand "Energy for Europe", JRC experts Stefano Tarantola and Andrea Carbotti will showcase the tools they use in their daily work, from modelling and table-top exercises to engaging citizens in gamification for sustainability. We will also present our efforts in involving stakeholders in energy communities and demonstrating the experiments conducted in our smart grid and smart home laboratories. The stand will highlight the societal value of the JRC activities.

EUSEW participants can discover what we do in the field of energy security, digitalisation and markets and what the JRC and the European Commission are doing to ensure energy security in a period of crisis, and what efforts are brought forward to ensure energy independence from fossil fuels.

We include interactive elements in our stand to stimulate discussion and debate with participants. The audience will be able to play with tools simulating shocks in energy supply and the consequence on the security of supply across Europe, and will have the opportunity to testing the first beta version of our new immersive game on renewable energy communities, thus contributing to the co-development of the game.

Meet us at the Energy for Europe - stand C12 in the Charlemagne building (second floor)!
