Programme

  1. 23 Sep 2024, 12:00 - 27 Sep 2024, 18:00 (CEST)
    EU PVSEC 2024 Programme

The scientific conference programme comprises plenary, oral and visual presentations on the latest scientific, technological and market-related trends.

Coordinated by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre, the programme is structured on 5 key topics:

    • Silicon Materials and Cells
    • Thin Films and New Concepts
    • Photovoltaic Modules and BoS Components
    • PV Systems Engineering, Integrated/Applied PV
    • PV in the Energy Transition

The technology topics encompass new developments in silicon cells, perovskites and tandems, amongst others. The modules and systems topics look at design, implementation, performance and operation, including the increasingly important role of digitalisation and machine learning, as well as the multitude of applications in areas such as buildings (BIPV), agriculture (Agri PV) and on water (Floating PV). The energy transition topic covers the wide range of multidisciplinary efforts required to ensure the rapid deployment of PV technologies on a massive and global scale as a key element of the ecological transition, including, technical, storage, economic, sustainability, and societal challenges.

Highlights in the 2024 programme include:

Silicon cells will now encompass all work on different architectures such as PERC, TOPCon-like, IBC, and HJT, under Subtopic 1.2 "Single junction Si Cells".

A new Subtopic 1.3 "Silicon Bottom Cells for Tandem Photovoltaics" has been created for research on transforming single-junction silicon cells into designs suitable for use as bottom cells in tandem devices. This subtopic specifically focuses on the scientific novelty of the modifications made to the Si cells, while presentations on full tandem devices should still be submitted to Subtopic 2.1.

The Space and Concentrator topics have been relocated (Subtopic 4.7 has been removed). The field of photovoltaics for space is constantly evolving and adapting to the rapid growth of the space economy. Therefore, space-related abstracts will now be covered under Subtopic 2.3 to align with related cell technology developments.

Papers on CPV will now fall under Subtopic 4.5, renamed as "Dual Use and Other Innovative PV Applications", given that many CPV developments are specific to certain applications. Additionally, while Subtopic 5.2 "Sustainability of PV" is the designated topic for papers in this field, sustainability should be the focus for the entire PV ecosystem. Hence, specific technological advancements with sustainability goals, such as reducing material usage or improving recyclability, should still be submitted under their respective subtopics.
