The latest status of drought in Europe using a combined drought indicator.

Detailed analysis of drought conditions

Alert drought conditions

Alert conditions are intensifying in large areas of Ukraine and in neighboring countries, in western Russia and in some spot regions in Türkiye, impacting crops and vegetation. While most of central Europe is showing vegetation recovery thanks to some recent precipitation.

Some areas in the UK, Poland, Cyprus, Greece, and south-eastern Balkans remain under persistent alert drought conditions, affecting the vegetation. Alert conditions also persist in northern Africa and the Middle East.

Warning and watch conditions

Warning drought conditions are present in the Baltic Sea region, Ireland, the UK, northern France, Benelux, some regions in southern Germany, south-eastern Poland, eastern Czechia, Slovakia, most of eastern Ukraine, southern and western Russia, western Romania, Bulgaria, some regions of Greece, some areas of the Balkans, Cyprus, most of Türkiye,  and south-eastern Mediterranean islands.

Wide regions in central Europe, southern Scandinavia, and the Balkans are under watch conditions due to a persistent precipitation deficit.

Normal or recovery drought conditions

Most of northern Scandinavia, most of the Iberian Peninsula, the centre and south of France, most of Italy, wide areas in the western Balkans, southern and eastern Austria, Switzerland, Hungary, the Carpathian Mountains, and parts of Greece show normal or recovery conditions.  Recent precipitation favored recovery in some areas in central Europe and southern Scandinavia.
