Ana-Maria Duță

Biography

Ana-Maria provides crisis, conflict and security analyses and maps based on geospatial intelligence for the crisis preparedness and response needs of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI). Essential for situational awareness and analysis, the mapping produced help and fasten the understanding of the conflict situation. They are used by the European Union Institutions and Member States as supporting material for informed decision-making and foreign policy operations, including field visits and interventions.

Professional achievements 

Before joining the JRC’s European Crisis Management Laboratory (ECML), Ana-Maria worked as a scientific analyst in the JRC’s demography and migration unit where one of the main achievements was the participation to the first Atlas of Migration. Previously she worked as an emergency response officer at DG ECHO’s Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) where she dealt with more than 70 emergencies.

Other work experiences include information support for rapid external action on conflict and natural resources (Kimberly Process) at the JRC and consular affairs and social security as national coordinator of the Italian UIL Trade Union in Romania. In addition, she has worked on several occasions as a volunteer in Uganda, Tanzania and Nepal, supporting HIV-positive people, managing orphanages and local development projects and teaching. 

Academic background

Ana-Maria holds a Bachelor degree in political sciences and sociology and a PhD in cross-border politics. She did her thesis on the Darfur conflict and its cross-border consequences.
