Sessions

JRC is co-organiser of the session Re-imagining science advice to policy after COVID-19. How to build a stronger, better-connected ecosystem in Europe? It is taking place on 24 June at 9.30 AM

During this session, panellists will discuss the challenges encountered in providing advice to the EU during the COVID-19 crisis, with perspectives from the experience in Member States, working with JRC in the ‘Science for Policy across the EU’ project, and reflecting on how science advice could feed all policy and public administration areas across Europe, building upon the momentum of science in the pandemic.

JRC is organiser of the session Post-COVID-19 recovery for cities: The New European Bauhaus Initiative, taking place on 24 June at 11.00 AM

This section is at crossroads of at least three initiatives of the Commission: the New European Bauhaus (NEB), the Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission and the European Green Deal. The session will discuss ‘6 ideas for change’, also illustrating how engagement of citizens in the co-design and co-implementation phases of these key Commission’s priorities and policy developments is a need rather than a nice to have.

JRC is co-organiser of the session “How can we build a green future together?”, taking place on 24 June at 5.00 PM

This session builds on the citizen engagement events organised by the European Commission prior to the European R&I Days around the European Green Deal. Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel will discuss citizens’ ideas and recommendations to ensure that R&I policy and practices are shaped with citizens.

Virtual House in the Horizon Village

During the R&I Days, the JRC launches the policy brief on The impact of Covid19 on top R&D investors: first insight into the 2021 EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard.

This brief shows that in 2020, at global level, industrial R&D continued to grow despite the pandemic. This performance contrasts with the reduction in capital expenditure and fall in sales and shows that these innovating companies are planning for post-COVID opportunities.

This positive trend was driven by Health and ICT industries and hampered by Automobiles and Aerospace sectors.

These preliminary results which also show that EU companies investment fell slightly highlight the need to step-up the implementation of EU policies aimed at supporting the recovery, resilience and the digital and green transitions and in particular the new industrial and European Research Area strategies. The full report is expected to be published in November 2021.

JRC supports the policy-making and contributes to the advancement of research in areas with a significant impact on people’s lives. The virtual exhibition displays two JRC projects in the field of health.
