Overview
Access to JRC research infrastructures is regulated by the:
- "Framework of Access to Joint Research Centre physical Research Infrastructures" (Open access for experiments)
- "Framework of Access to Joint Research Centre physical Research Infrastructures for the purposes of training and capacity building” (Open access for training and capacity building)
- "Framework for the use of Joint Research Centre Research Infrastructures as a Service" (JRC Labs as a Service)
Drafted by the JRC and based on the Revised Charter for Access to Research Infrastructures to foster open science, innovation, and research security (Open access) and on the Charter of access for industrial users to research and technology infrastructures (JRC Labs as a Service), each of the Frameworks defines the principles and modalities, including the rights and obligations of the JRC and the user(s), health and safety, security rules, intellectual property rights, data protection, confidentiality, liability and financial aspects, under which the JRC:
- opens its facilities to external users for conducting research, undertaking experiments and providing training and capacity building through an open access policy (Open access)
- offers its facilities to industry to test and validate their innovations (JRC Labs as a Service)
The organisation and management of user access projects, including all necessary technical and legal aspects, is regulated by a:
- Research Infrastructure Access Agreement (RIAA) (Open access for experiments)
- Contract for the use of JRC Research Infrastructure as a Service (CRIAAS) (JRC Labs as a Service)
Physical access of users to the JRC is regulated by the User Access Agreement, signed by the user. The agreement covers legal aspects including intellectual property rights, confidentiality, third party liability, insurances, the documents to be provided by the user, and the rules of conduct at JRC sites.
The Lead User is encouraged to contact the research infrastructure during preparation of the proposals, in order to assess feasibility and capacity aspects related to the research infrastructure.
