FIGARO tables

A statistical product for economic modelling that links national accounts with data on business, trade, and jobs for EU Members and 18 main EU trading partners.

The FIGARO (Full International and Global Accounts for Research in Input-Output Analysis) tables are a result of a long-term collaboration between Eurostat and the JRC and present the relationship between economies at a detailed level of 64 industries and 64 products.

They provide a picture of the world economy by breaking down national GDPs in industrial sectors and products, offering trade data across countries, and including employment, production, consumption and environmental figures. With this data, it is possible to analyse the socioeconomic and environmental effects of globalisation in the EU and help to answer policy questions.

The 2024 FIGARO edition covers the whole time series of 2010 to 2022.

FIGARO database

An official statistical product

The FIGARO tables are a statistical product for economic modelling, produced annually since 2021. They link national accounts with data on business, trade, and jobs for EU Members and 18 main EU trading partners (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Norway, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, Türkiye, United Kingdom, United States). A 'rest of the world’ region completes the FIGARO tables.

Projections are made to obtain estimates for year T-2 (T being the year of FIGARO release), to ensure timely provision for EU policy analysis.

These tables are progressively being used as benchmark for other academic projects such as GTAP, GLORIA and EXIOBASE.

Eurostat and the JRC also collaborate within the GIANT initiative (Global Input-Output Accounts), comprising the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (UN-ECLAC), the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UN-ECA), and the World Trade Organization (WTO), which aims to explore synergies and common action among the various initiatives on the compilation of multi-country (extended) supply, use, and input-output tables.

By using the FIGARO tables in models such as FIDELIO, CARMEN or Trade-SCAN, the AMADEUS team supports policymakers in understanding the global industry landscape and its evolution for a better design and implementation of EU trade and EU industrial policies that foster sustainable growth and competitiveness.
