Description
As part of its Youth Programme, and in the wider context of the European Green Deal, the JRC hosts a monthly series of Digital School Seminars for secondary schools in English and Italian.
They are titled “Science is everywhere” and touch upon environmental issues, such as food, health, biodiversity, energy and cybersecurity and big data.
The next of these seminars in Italian, titled “Let’s talk about…biodiversity”, will present the work our scientists carry out in support of EU policies and strategies that aim at relieving the pressure modern life puts on ecosystems, with an eye on conservation techniques and efficient use of natural resources.
The broad spectrum of knowledge is distilled and introduced by the scientists themselves through ad-hoc presentations, looking at the role of soil biodiversity in food production, water filtration and nutrient cycling, plus invasive alien species (IAS), damaging non-native plants and animals.
Additionally, a case study demonstrates how to track and report IAS with a smartphone and how this data enhances existing knowledge.
Registration
Registrations must be completed no later than 21 March 2022.
