Temporary Agents may be employed to perform specific tasks in the field of research as either an AD (administrator) or an AST (assistant). Only when the JRC identifies a need in a particular area of expertise that cannot be found either in-house or on the EPSO reserve lists will recourse be made to the recruitment of a Temporary Agent. Who can participate?

Any individual interested who satisfies the requirements listed below (a-e) and who possesses the qualifications and professional experience as listed in the vacancy notice.

  1. he/she is a national of one of the Member States of the Communities, unless an exception is authorised by the appointing authority, and enjoys his/her full rights as a citizen;
  2. he/she has fulfilled any obligations imposed on him by the laws concerning military service;
  3. he/she produces the appropriate character references as to his/her suitability for the performance of his duties;
  4. he/she is physically fit to perform his duties; and
  5. he/she produces evidence of a thorough knowledge of one of the languages of the Communities and of a satisfactory knowledge of another language of the Communities to the extent necessary for the performance of his duties.

Although the rules on the length of initial contracts and subsequent contract extensions vary, as a rule, Temporary Agents are recruited by the JRC for a maximum period of six years. Typically, the contract is awarded for an initial period of 4 years and may be renewed not more than once for a period of 2 years (AT 4+2).
