The importance of sustainable finance in today’s economic landscape cannot be over-stated, as it intersects economic prosperity, environmental preservation, and societal well-being.
There is a growing consensus that the global economy is inseparably linked to the health and vitality of our environment and that our socio-economic dependency on the environment and its ecosystems can lead to vulnerabilities.
At the same time that human and business activities pose significant threats to planetary resources, sectors like oil and gas, food, forestry, insurance, and real estate are particularly susceptible to risks arising from regulatory changes, shifts in agricultural productivity, and depletion of natural resources.
The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) —a key player in linking environmental challenges with economic risks— co-organises, together with the The Accounting and Finance Group at the University of Padua, the "Sustainable finance, the way forward" workshop: an event that aims to prompt a reflection over questions, issues and inquiries about opportunities and challenges in sustainable finance, focusing on key areas including measurement and reporting, valuation, policies, and markets.
