Portrait of Sergio Torrejón Pérez

Biography

I joined the JRC, where I work as an economic and policy analyst, in May 2019.

The team I joined is specialised mainly in the following areas: labour markets and employment dynamics and the future of work and education.

Before joining the JRC, I was as an adviser in the cabinet of the Ministry of Health, Consumer Affairs and Social Welfare of Spain; before I worked in a private company doing social and market research and I was also a university researcher. Previous jobs include experiences as a freelance consultant and as a high-school teacher in Denmark.

I have a PhD in Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid, where I published a thesis focused on changes in job structures in Spain along the economic cycle, and I have been a visiting researcher in EUROFOUND (Dublin) and at the European University Institute (Florence).

My research interests are in the area that lay between economics and sociology: social structure and inequality, social class analysis, labour market analysis, employment and employment quality, social wellbeing and social protection, etc.
