Towards an inclusive and resilient society: social justice and fair twin transitions.

Contributes to European Commission priorities

The socio-economic development of our societies faces many existing but also new challenges; for instance, the twin transition will affect households and their prospects. The political priority of social cohesion and development is expected to intensify in the future, putting the social dimension at the heart of Europe’s policy agenda. At the same time, social policies and social standards are important for people.

Our goals:

  • Provide a unified space integrating competencies across the JRC for the analysis of key trends and prospects of the society (inequalities, poverty, health status, socio-economic impacts of policies);
  • Analyse the consequences of the twin transition on fairness and social cohesion;
  • Address the transversal guiding principle of ‘equality for all and equality in all its senses’ within the recovery context and in particular, support the implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights.

Fairness

To provide a wider evidence base that can enhance EU policy aiming to achieve this goal, the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) has embarked on a multi-year cross-national research project to study different aspects of fairness.

Fiscal policy analysis

The JRC provides research and modelling for a better taxation and social benefits for households, corporate taxation and pension modelling.

Gender gaps in education and employment

Despite recent progress, gender gaps in education and employment remain a challenge in Europe. The JRC studies disparities in student performance, educational achievements, occupations, wages, and power and control at the workplace.

Resilience

Resilience is a new compass for EU policies. Building a more resilient society calls for enhancing the capacity for adaptation and transformatio, urging to shift towards a paradigm of a more sustainable growth and societal development path.

The Survey Methods and Analysis Centre

The Survey Methods and Analysis Centre (SMAC) is a specialised research centre within the Joint Research Centre's Science for Modelling, Monitoring and Evaluations unit.
