This handbook is the result of the work of the OECD Expert Group on Extended Supply and Use Tables (EGESUT), where the JRC has greatly contributed.
This group has been active for over a decade and represents a significant step towards bridging the gap between macroeconomic (national accounts) and microeconomic data (business statistics and trade statistics, at enterprise level or by type of enterprise).
This publication sets new international standards and presents methodological guidance on how to compile ‘extended supply and use tables’ (ESUTs) and ‘extended input-output tables’ (EIOTs), combining the strengths of each. It offers a new approach to provide industry breakdowns by enterprise type. The methodologies build on existing data and methods, and includes numerous country examples, demonstrating that these methods are broadly replicable.
It bridges the gap between macroeconomic (national accounts) and microeconomic data (business statistics and trade statistics, at enterprise level or by type of enterprise).
Objectives
With this handbook, the OECD and the JRC aim to:
- provide policy-related reasons and statistical reasons to compile ESUTs and EIOTs.
- provide specific compilation guidance, documenting concepts, classifications, methodologies and data sources
- share best practices and case studies
- indicate possible solutions when data availability is limited
- explain how to communicate results to non-expert public
