Finflows provides a comprehensive and harmonised mapping of domestic and cross-border financial investments across institutional sectors, financial instruments and geographies over time.
It offers a coherent framework for monitoring and analysing patterns of savings, investments, and bilateral financial linkages for countries within the EU and globally, enabling in-depth “who-to-whom” analysis of domestic financial sectoral accounts and international financial interdependencies and exposure. The dataset strengthens transparency in domestic and international capital movements and supports the analysis of financial integrations, spillovers, systemic risks and vulnerabilities. It is crucial instrument to inform the Savings and Investments Union.
Finflows has been developed by the JRC together with the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN).
Policy background
Designing policies that allow savings and investments to move seamlessly within the EU economy, as advocated by the Savings and Investments Union, requires an in-depth knowledge of their current patterns, including bottlenecks that prevent an efficient allocation of resources.
