Consolidate approaches for safety assessment in different SMR designs by developing and promoting the 3S approach, where safety, security and safeguard provisions are all addressed together in the design phase.
JRC focuses on safety, security, and safeguards by design of SMRs, ensuring that they comply with security and non-proliferation standards, supporting digitalisation and cybersecurity initiatives, as well as global non-proliferation efforts.
JRC work on the safety and security of SMRs combines the following aspects:
- consolidating approaches and tools for safety assessment in different SMR designs
- developing and promoting the 3S approach, where safety, security and safeguard provisions are all addressed together in the design phase
- promoting the harmonisation of regulatory standards across European countries
- fostering European and international collaboration in the development of regulations, and ensuring alignment with global standards and best practices.
