Beyond averages - Fairness in an economy that works for people

The JRC has published the Second JRC Fairness Report in 2019

Growing disparities in multiple dimensions have contributed to feelings of unfairness and discontent. Fairness is always in the eye of the beholder.
A widespread perception of unfairness in society can have far-reaching consequences, making it important to investigate the drivers and underlying dynamics of fairness perceptions and inequalities. The flagship report, written before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, analyses some of the most pertinent dimensions of fairness in relation to the agenda for a fair, inclusive and social European Union.
The unfolding pandemic strengthens the need to address the challenges underlying widening socio-economic inequalities.
