Biography
Sabrina Gioria is a scientific project assistant at the Consumer Products Safety Unit of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre.
Her main research interest focus on investigating the interaction of (nano) material with various biological systems. She is in particular active in the development and optimization of in vitro toxicity testing methods based on various cell culture models. In order to study the cellular uptake of nanomaterial and biological responses that might lead to toxicological manifestations, she is using different imaging technologies as well as molecular biological methods including OMICS (transcriptomics, proteomics, cytomics, metabonomics).
Sabrina Gioria has graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology at the University of Turin and gained experiences in the field in different institutions such as the European Institute of Oncology in Milan (Italy), the University College of London (UCL, UK), the Testing Methods Group of the European Chemicals Bureau (ECB, JRC Ispra). Since 2002 she is an official of the European Commission. She has been working for the Reference Materials and Methods Unit (IRMM, JRC Geel, Belgium) before joining in 2007 the Nanobiosciences team (JRC, Ispra, Italy). Currently, she is involved in the Horizon 2020 Infrastructure project "European Nanomedicine Characterisation Laboratory (EUNCL)" as core expert team. She participated in several EU competitive research projects and inter-laboratory comparison studies. She has been involved in the design and maintenance of the ISO 9001 quality management system for the Laboratories Areas.
