Description

The novel SPR biochip sensor is made of a dielectric substrate and an ordered array of plasmonic nanocavities. Each nanocavity is able to concentrate the light at a specific wavelength in a very limited volume, acting like an antenna. When biomolecules or nanoparticles bind to the top of the cavity they modify the wavelength of the light absorbed, and they can be sensed by a camera. The system can be optimized for the detection of molecules and nanoparticles of different size.

THE MAIN APPLICATION AREAS

Chemical, biochemical, biological, biomedical, pharmaceutical and physical testing.

THE MAIN INNOVATIVE ASPECTS AND ADVANTAGES

  • possibility to perform multiplexed analysis with high throughput
  • sensitivity tuned to the different molecules to be detected
  • universal sensing platform (for plasmonic, raman, fluorescence, mass spectrometry, electrochemical detection)
  • compatible with high-end instrumentation (e.g. for pharmaceutical testing) and low-cost portable point of care instrumentation
