Uranium isotope amount ratios and uranium mass in uranium microparticles
Description
NUSIMEP-9 was an inter-laboratory comparison for all laboratories, but particularly for those involved in uranium particle analysis, notably the IAEA network of analytical laboratories for environmental sampling (NWAL).
Certified test samples
Participating laboratories in NUSIMEP-9 received one certified test item (sample) of uranium micro-particles of single isotopic composition, distributed on carbon planchets of 2.5 cm diameter.
General outline of the exercise
Participants were asked to use their routine procedure for measuring the isotope amount ratio values for n(234U)/n(238U), n(235U)/n(238U) and n(236U)/n(238U) (compulsory) in the particles and are encouraged to measure/determine the uranium mass per particle (optional measurement).
The participants’ measurement results were evaluated against the certified reference values. Full confidentiality is guaranteed with respect to the link between measurement results and the participants’ identity.
The participation fee was € 600 including dispatch.
Registration
Due to the nature of this comparison only a limited number of items/units were available. Registration for this inter-laboratory comparison was done electronically using the following link:

NUSIMEP-9 certified test items will be available from end of 2019 on the JRC Certified Reference Materials online catalogue with the identifier IRMM-2329P (please check https://crm.jrc.ec.europa.eu for availability).
