Digital Techno-Economic ecoSystem (DGTES): mapping and analysing digital and other industrial ecosystems

JRC maps and analyses the digital and other industrial ecosystems, as well as digital technological domains, considering actors, relationships and techno-economic activities (research, innovation, business and investment flows).

Relying on micro-data sources, a complex network approach and innovative data analytics methods, we build an industrial ecosystem view that allows us to monitor and analyse, with flexibility and granularity, the digital transition's impact on the EU's economy, competitiveness and economic security.

Policy impact

This research studies dynamics and trends in connection to relevant digital policies and initiatives, including the Industrial Strategy, the Startups and Scaleups Strategy, the AI Continent, the Europe 2030 Digital Decade Policy Programme, the Twin Transition, the European Defence Union, the Draghi Report. It makes an important contribution to the Competitiveness Compass, where the Economic Security Agenda remains as an underlying policy initiative, highlighting and identifying EU’s strategic opportunities and sectoral trends.

Goals

  • Gain insights into the digital and other industrial ecosystems and digital technological domains
  • Analyse competitiveness factors and global investment flows, assessing the Digital Transition’s impact on the EU’s economy and competitiveness
  • Support policy decisions and provide policy-relevant recommendations on digital policies, including Industrial Strategy and Digital Decade, as well as on emerging critical technologies
  • Explore interrelations between digital and climate mitigation technologies
  • Identification of opportunities for the EU to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.
