ActUsLab: User Accounts

The role of the user laboratory is absolutely essential because it is the unique laboratory where the complicated properties of actinide systems are presently studied. And moreover, the works performed in this program have developed many collaborations and new scientific programs and I myself am very grateful.

(C.N.R.S)

I would like to warmly express my appreciation for the "Actinide User Laboratory" project that has allowed me and my colleagues to investigate very interesting materials that would have been otherwise inaccessible to us.

(Politecnico di Torino)

In my opinion, the Actinide User Laboratory has been, and is, of vital strategic importance in maintaining and developing the knowledge and expertise of European scientists in the field of Actinide physics and chemistry. By opening up the facilities to the wider community of scientists throughout European Universities and institutes. It is important to emphasise the uniqueness of the facilities available within the Laboratory. Quite simply, there is nowhere else in Europe where University scientists are able to carry out experiments on transuranium materials. Over the years, you and your colleagues have developed an impressive range of methods, techniques and equipment for the preparation of transuranium samples and for the characterization of their structural, electrical and magnetic properties. We are indebted to you for this excellent suite of equipment that you have brought together within the Actinide User Laboratory.

(University College, London)

The Actinide User Laboratory is an investment in the future. Is uses the unique facilities of the JRC for the use of training young scientists from many different disciplines and gives them experience in handling these materials, learning their properties and discussing them with colleagues. Many will not stay in this line of research, and that is not necessary. What is important is that they will have some experience and can therefore make informed decisions in the future.

(Institut Laue Langevin, Grenoble, France)

I also realize that the JRC infrastructure could be very useful for those which need to go deeper in the actinide science, especially for researchers from the new member states and I recommend that this institute and its laboratories to my colleagues interested in the actinide impact on the environment.
