Biography

Ludovica is a conflict and geospatial analyst (consultant). Within the European Crisis Management Laboratory (ECML) she provides crisis, conflict and security maps, assessments and analyses based on geospatial intelligence for the crisis preparedness and response needs of the European External Action Service (EEAS) and the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI). Essential for situational awareness and context analysis, the maps, which are also featured on the restricted-access portal Science4Peace, contribute to a better understanding of a crisis and are used by European Union Institutions and Member States as supporting material for informed decision-making and foreign policy operations.

Professional achievements 

Before joining the JRC in 2019 as consultant, Ludovica undertook a traineeship in Unit E.1 working on the Global Crisis Atlas. During her studies, she took part and contributed to several initiatives related to sustainability and human security within the University of Milan, as well as doing an internship at the international development NGO AVSI Foundation. In addition, since 2015, Ludovica has been a volunteer at Alfabeti Odv, first as an Italian teacher to migrants and then as coordinator of evening classes; in 2023 she was elected on the Board of Directors.

Academic background

After obtaining a BA in Language Mediation and Intercultural Communication, Ludovica pursued an MA in International Relations in 2016, both at the University of Milan. Contextually to the writing of her thesis, she conducted extensive fieldwork on migrant labour in South African gold mines, based at the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg). She further holds an MA in Social Research (University of Birmingham), a research training programme recognised by the ESRC.
