Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the EU and worldwide.

To a significant extent, they are preventable and preventive and mitigating action can be taken to reduce their human and financial burden. Through its policies, the EU can influence and change EU citizen’s health and wellbeing, for instance through further supporting the implementation of integrated care models.

Our goals:

• Reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases in the EU, particularly cancer and rare diseases, by harmonising, developing and using Commission’s evidence-based competences and systems for EU health policies
• Help Member States to dismantle illicit trade of products that are harmful to health such as psychoactive substances and counterfeit tobacco
