Today, an update of the JRC MARS Bulletin - Crop monitoring in Europe - was published, focusing on the exceptionally intense heatwave in western Europe at the end of July, and the persistent rain deficit in most of northern-central Europe and large parts of western Europe.
As a consequence of these unfavourable conditions, pasture productivity and the yield outlook for summer crops such as maize, sugar beet and potatoes are further negatively impacted in these regions.
The update illustrates these effects on France as a specific example.
The update - in the form of a slide presentation - was made on request of DG AGRI of the European Commission, in the context of the derogations and support measures to farmers impacted by drought, as announced by Commissioner Hogan on 25 July (Drought in Europe: the Commission offers further support to European farmers).
The next Bulletin will be published on 26 August.
