The Ukraine and Turkey issues of the JRC MARS Bulletin global outlook series were published today.

According to the Bulletin on Ukraine, the yield forecasts for wheat, spring barley and sunflowers are somewhat below the historical trend, but all (except spring barley) are above the five-year average. The yield outlook for grain maize is positive. Intense rainfall in July impacted the quality of winter grains but benefited summer crops. Dry conditions in August mainly affected sunflower and soybean crops in southern and eastern oblasts. The dry soils are currently hindering the emergence of winter crops, particularly rapeseed, for the next growing season.

In Turkey, yield forecasts for winter crops remain very positive on account of favourable temperature conditions and average to above-average precipitation during spring and early summer. The winter crops season ended in July. Yield forecasts for wheat and barley are 7.7 % and 3.5 % above the five-year average, respectively. Yield forecasts for summer crops also remain above average as yield formation has been supported by abundant irrigation, which mitigated the hot summer temperatures.
