The Joint Research Centre is looking for a specialist in Circular Economy and Open Strategic Autonomy to lead its new Centre for Advanced Studies project bounCE4ward. This project will look into Circular Economy as the tool to safeguard supply chains against sudden shocks and improve the EU’s autonomy position. In addition, it should measure how circular the EU economy is currently and establish which actions are most urgently needed. A first brainstorming session on the project took place on 22 April 2021.
The vacancy is open to scientists who can deal with highly complex problems and who are ready to lead an interdisciplinary team of up to four scientists who will design the concept, methodology and implementation plan of the project. The leading scientist should facilitate cooperation with leading European and international experts in the field, and conclude the project with key scientific findings and recommendations for policy makers. The team may include, or collaborate closely, with researchers that have core competencies in waste and resource management, circular economy, international trade and geopolitics. It will work daily with the Circular Economy and Industrial Leadership Unit.
We are looking for a person with university studies of at least three years attested by a diploma and at least five years of professional experience, or a doctoral degree (PhD) in a field relevant to the position, such as Engineering, Natural Sciences, Economy or Political Sciences. Other essential criteria are experience of at least three years in circular economy related projects from a research, business and/or policy perspective and professional experience of at least a year in leading research projects, teams and/or international networks.
The person should be independent, self-motivated and able to manage a project to deadlines. (S)he must have excellent written and spoken English (C1 level) and knowledge of at least one other EU language. Multidisciplinary experience is an asset, combining proven know-how in several domains related to resources and circular economy, including but not limited to technology, socio-economics and/or policy-making. Also in-depth knowledge and/or working experience on EU and international policies in the fields of international trade, sustainable development and/or geopolitics is a plus, as well as working experience, including in the private sector, academia and/or government positions, among other things.
