The June edition of the JRC MARS bulletin – Global outlook for Kazakhstan shows average yield prospects for spring and winter cereals.

The sowing campaign of spring cereals - which in Kazakhstan are more important than winter cereals - was completed in time in early June. Despite the prevailing dry weather conditions in the most important producing regions crops have established well. However, more rain is needed soon to sustain the yield potential.

Yield expectations for winter cereals are slightly above the 5-year average. They present average development and growth, sustained mainly by adequate, although irregular, rainfall during the growing cycle.

Canopy conditions as observed by satellite

Satellite observations of the NDVI vegetation indicator on arable land mainly show average conditions (yellow colours on the map) in the South, North and partially in the East of Kazakhstan. In the Northwest, abundant precipitation favoured above-average crop biomass accumulation, as reflected in the green colours on the map.
