Biography
Dr. Jessica Ponti is a scientific project assistant at the Consumer Products Safety Unit of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre. Since 2015 she is the technical responsible of the Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Cryo-TEM facility.
She works on physicochemical characterisation of nanomaterials measuring size distribution, morphology and elemental analysis by Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). She works on nanomaterials' cellular interaction, intracellular fate, cell ultrastructure preparing samples by Ultra-microtome.
Jessica Ponti receives her Degree in Biology in 2001 at the University of Insubria (Italy), Master in Genetics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Spain) in 2004 and PhD in Science at the Facultés Univeritaires Notre-Dame de la Paix-Namur (Belgium) in 2009.
She starts working at the European Commission Joint Research Centre (Ispra-Italy) in 2000 becoming an official in 2006. Her experience includes the use of in vitro systems to investigate cytotoxicity, morphological neoplastic transformation, genotoxicity and intracellular fate of nanomaterials. She participates in EU competitive research projects and inter-laboratory comparison studies.
