JRC developed the Geospatial Risk and Resilience Assessment Platform (GRRASP). GRRASP is a World Wide Web oriented architecture bringing together geospatial technologies and computational tools for the analysis and simulation of critical infrastructures. It allows information sharing and constitutes a basis for future developments in the direction of collaborative analysis and federated simulation. It takes on board security concerns in the information sharing process, thanks to its ability to manage users and roles consistently. Based entirely on open source technologies, the system can also be deployed in separate servers and used by EU Member States as a means to facilitate the analysis of risk and resilience in critical infrastructures.
GRRASP can be used for the analysis of complex networked systems taking into consideration cross-sectoral and cross-border interdependencies. It can be used for analyses of CI disruptions at local, regional, national, international level. GRRASP follows a tiered approach according to which Tier 1 modules can be used for the analysis of critical infrastructures at sectoral level, Tier 2 modules for cross-sectoral analyses (interdependencies), and finally Tier 3 modules for high level economic impact of CI disruption at state level.
GRRASP download is temporarily unavailable. A new release will be available soon.
What is GRRASP made of?
GRRASP = web services + Drupal + GeoServer + mathematical models for CIs + visualization (OpenLayers 3, D3.js)
The current version of the GRRASP architecture represents an important improvement over the previous versions. The technical infrastructure of the project has benefited from the integration with the Drupal Content Management Systems (CMS), which streamlines the development and update process of the platform and allows the integration with a number of third-part modules, fostering interoperability and bringing collaboration capabilities to a new level. Thanks to these features, the platform seems to properly meet the objective to provide an analysis framework that can be used by member states competent authorities and operators in order to improve risk and resilience assessment at local, regional, national and international scale. In addition, it can represent a tool to support the development and testing process of new models, as well as CIP-related training activities.
An open-source environment
The platform is open source and completely built out of open-source software.
What can it be used for?
GRRASP can be used for sharing and analysing geospatial data related to critical infrastructures. The end user can
- access geo-DBs
- create new layers
- perform analysis on existing and new layers
- extend the platform with new modules, new analysis tools, etc.
What does the package include?
The package is released as a Drupal 7 profile, together with example data for GeoServer.
Scientific models are included, in themselves, as separate Drupal modules. Examples included in the package are:
- network metrics: a module to perform graph analysis on directed/undirected networks, with a focus on critical infrastructures;
- DMCI (Dynamic Functional Modeling of Vulnerability and Interoperability of Critical Infrastructures): a module to perform time analysis of disservice of interconnected critical infrastructures against critical events;
- CINOPSYS: a module to analysize economic losses during critical events according to a inventory dynamic input-output inoperability model.
