Francesca Di Girolamo

Biography

Erica Francesca joint the Joint Research Centre in 2009 and she has been actively involved in the work of the European Commission to create a safer and sounder financial system. In particular, over the last few years she has contributed to EC proposals on higher capital requirements for banks, harmonized deposit protection schemes and EU framework for bank recovery and resolution. She is now coordinating activities in the field of banking regulation and her more recent research focuses on climate risk for the financial sector. From 2018 to 2019 she joint the Single Resolution Board before coming back to the European Commission in 2019. She studied Mathematical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in Italy and earned a PhD in financial modeling at the Department of Mathematics of the Katholieke Universiteit of Leuven. Her main research interests focus on mathematical-financial modeling, risk management and banking systems.
