Fernando Martinez Santos is a policy analyst in the Competence Centre on Microeconomic Evaluation at the Joint Research Centre (JRC).

Biography

Fernando Martínez Santos performs quantitative analysis, namely impact assessment and impact evaluation, with the ultimate goal of improving evidence-informed policymaking in the EU.
Before the JRC, he has developed his professional career mostly in institutions, more recently as a case handler in merger control and antitrust enforcement at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in UK and at the Spanish Competition Authority (CNMC).

Fernando has also worked as an Economist in regulatory bodies, specifically at Bank of Spain and the Spanish Telecoms Regulator (former CMT). Additionally, he has teaching experience in quantitative methods at Universidad Carlos III, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and CEU San Pablo University. And he has collaborated with private consultancy firms in Competition Economics.

Fernando completed his PhD in Economics at Universitat de Barcelona in 2015. He also holds a MSc in Economics from University College London and a Master in Industrial Organization from Universidad Carlos III.

He has published in economic journals such as Empirical Economics, Applied Economics, Information Economics and Policy, and Journal of Regulatory Economics.
