Report
Background and programme
According to a new policy brief based on the Special Eurobarometer survey on Fairness, many Europeans hold inaccurate beliefs about their position in their country’s income distribution. The seminar discussed why it is important to study relative income (mis)perceptions and the implications these (mis)perceptions have on how Europeans view different policies.
The seminar then presented some evidence based on the Special Eurobarometer survey data concerning the spread of relative income (mis)perceptions in the EU and the links between (mis)perceptions and life fairness views, inequality concerns, and preferences for redistributive policies.
Speakers
Dietmar Fehr, Heidelberg University
Elena Stepanova, European Commission JRC
