Risk Data Hub Workshop

The aim of the workshop is to train local, national and EU authorities dealing with disaster risk management on how to make the most of the data, tools and methodologies provided by the platform.

During the workshop, participants will learn how the Risk Data Hub (RDH) contributes to the EU countries disaster prevention and preparedness efforts.

The workshop will also provide participants with a shared virtual place where to exchange views on the functionalities and aims of the RDH.

The RDH workshop is organised by the EC Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Centre and DG ECHO.

It will take place on June 15 and it will be organised in 3 sessions.

  • Session 1: Overview of RDH functionalities supported by examples of concrete applications.
  • Session 2: Deep dive technical session with guided exercises.
  • Session 3: Concluding session on potential analytics that can be generated from the RDH.

Participation is free and open to

  • Local, national authorities involved in national risk assessments.
  • Institutions dealing with financial risk and disaster impacts on the financial sector.
  • Technical staff in local and national authorities responsible for the collection and recording of disaster loss data.

By participating to the workshop, stakeholders will have the chance to get acquainted with the RDH functionalities and will be trained on how to best exploit the data, tools and methodologies provided from the platform.

Background

The RDH provides local and national authorities with scientific support to come up with evidence-based policies fostering disaster prevention and preparedness.

Therefore, its ultimate goal is to offer policymakers data to help improve risk assessments in the stages before, during and after a climate change inducted, meteorological or hydrological disaster hits Europe.

As the main deliverable of the Science Pillar of the Union Civil Protection Knowledge Network for 2022, the RDH plays a pivotal role in supporting Member States deliver on their commitments related to the Sendai framework, in coming up with climate change adaptation strategies, and in outlining national risk assessment reports.
