As a melting pot of perspectives and disciplines, this Art & Science Summer School will be a fertile ground for artists, JRC scientists, and EC policymakers to come together for five days of transdisciplinary exchange, to ferment ideas on the theme of "NaturArchy: Towards a Natural Contract".
After the Summer School, participants will have the possibility to co-present a project proposal. If selected, they will be given the opportunity to deepen their collaboration through a residency period at the JRC. The final work will then be produce and showcased.

The Open Call for Artists
The Resonance IV Open Call (18 Dec 2021 - 15 Feb 2022) invited artists across creative disciplines, countries and at any stage of their career to submit an application to participate in the NaturArchy Summer School. The Call was reaching out to artists producing work in the rich lands between art and science, whose work engages diverse audiences, and who show strong interest in scientific inquiry, were.
Twenty artists have been selected and invited as experts according to European Commission rules to participate actively to the Summer School.
The Summer School
Between June 20th and 24th, a group of artists, JRC scientists and EC policymakers will come together to explore the fertile ground and ferment visions on "NaturArchy: Towards a Natural Contract".
The aim of the Summer School is to foster transdisciplinary exchange, to create discourse, visions, narratives, and artworks that raise questions, challenge perceptions and widen awareness on the EU Green Deal.
We hope these exchanges will lead to inspiring projects and works of art at the intersection of the arts, sciences, and society. Of greatest interest are works that spill over from art and research cenacles into the streets.

Develop an art-science project
At the end of the Summer School, participants will be invited to submit a project proposal that combines research and production in view of a more extensive residency at one of the JRC sites in Europe.
If selected, the proposal will be produced and showcased at the JRC, with the possibility to exhibit, subsequently, in a major European venue.

Open Call for Artists - CLOSED
The Resonances IV Open Call for Artists closed on 15 February at 23:59 CET.
We have received 272 applications.
We are overwhelmed and humbled by this answer. But also downhearted by having to offer a place within the Summer School to only a small part of these beautiful creative engaged committed artists, wanting to work on NaturArchy and with the European project.
Independently of the final selection result, we urge you to continue your beautiful and important work on the topic, and continue to engage with the European Union.
Applications will be evaluated in the next weeks, and results announced at the beginning of April.

The purpose of the Summer School is to invite artists to explore and be inspired by the challenges of doing science for policy.
JRC scientists and policy-makers will be part of this group, jointly discussing and discovering the theme of NaturArchy in its contexts and perspectives.
Through this process, we wish to create a safe haven where artists and JRC scientists have the possibility to engage in high-quality pioneering collaborations.
