Description
Within the EURATOM project PASCAL, the JRC is organizing in Petten, a two-day workshop to encourage knowledge transfer and discussion between experts and students/young researchers regarding the safety the HLM reactor coolant and aspects related to integrity and resistance of the structure of HLM reactors.
Topics to be discussed:
- Thermal-hydraulic challenges for HLM reactors
- Fluid-structure interactions
- Sloshing phenomena
- In-service inspection

Outcome
- Confidence with the important aspects of the safety aspects of HLM-cooled systems
- Awareness of the young researchers/PhD students on the thermal-hydraulic needs, and the associated research possibilities in the field of safety-relevant issues towards MYRRHA and ALFRED.
Accommodation
Participants will be responsible for booking their own accommodation. For logistic and transportation reasons, it is suggested to book either the Amrath hotel in Alkmaar, or other hotels nearby. The block reservation has been arranged and participants can book their rooms with hotel Amrath in Alkmaar from 12 to 14 December 2023 on the “first come – first served” basis under the link:
Transportation
The participants can reach Alkmaar by the local train from the Amsterdam Central Station or from the Schiphol Airport. JRC will arrange taxi transportation from the Amrath hotel to the meeting venue and back. Please indicate your transportation preferences on the registration page in the “Events” section. Participants wishing to use this transport option will meet at the Amrath hotel to be collected. Participants may also arrive to the NRG Petten on their own
