Molten salt reactor technology (EUROMOST)

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) organises the first European Conference on Molten Salt Reactor Technology (EUROMOST), which will be hosted in the elegant and historic city of Baden-Baden, Germany.

Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) technology stands not just at the forefront of nuclear innovation but as a potential paradigm shift for global energy security and decarbonisation. This advanced reactor technology, known for its fuel flexibility and potential for high efficiency and availability, has already enabled various designs that could transform energy systems in the EU and worldwide.

On the way to demonstration and deployment, R&D on fuel, materials, and components needs to be completed, while coordinated regulatory action, shared industrial expertise, strategic financing models, and robust supply chain development have become increasingly important.

Over several days, participants will engage in deep technical exchanges in design and materials science, as well as collaborative planning sessions to address current challenges towards demonstration and deployment. They will elaborate on the expected impact on energy and industrial policies and pave the way for a roadmap to support low-carbon future.

More than a series of presentations, this event is designed to cultivate a durable, influential network of MSR actors. Whether your focus is on the innovation cycle (e.g., fuel-cycle optimisation), the development of novel licensing frameworks, or the strategic task of scaling up specific component supply chains, this conference provides an essential platform for connecting, aligning strategic efforts, and accelerate the path to commercial viability to speed up the transition to a cleaner energy mix.

Description

This conference is the definitive gathering point for active MSR drivers, and a crucial step towards making this technology a reality in the EU. We bring together pioneering researchers, technology developers, national and international regulators, government officials, institutional and private investors, and industrial partners and stakeholders. 

Conference Programme

The conference programme is mainly based on direct invitations, with limited number of spots available for special requests.

Poster presentations welcome open abstract submissions. Each selected poster presenter will be allowed 1-2 minutes time to highlight their research in front of the audience. 

The conference will take place at the Kongresshaus Baden-Baden

Call for contributions

The event organisers invite extended abstract contributions for poster presentations. Each participant will have a time slot to orally present their work. A call for abstracts is open until 15 March 2026. 

We particularly welcome contributions that address, but are not limited to, the following areas: MSR Fuel, MSR Fuel Cycle, Reactor Physics, Thermohydraulics, Structural Materials, Safety & Licensing, MSR Commercial Development and Deployment, Standardization.

Abstract acceptance will be communicated by the end of March 2026.

The EUROMOST conference is chaired by Ondrej Benes from the JRC, with scientific committee members:

Accommodation and transport

Registration is free of charge. All travel, accommodation, meals, and other expenses are to be covered by participants.

Participants are responsible for arranging their own transportation and accommodation.

Special rates:

Accommodation: Special hotel rates are available until 27 April 2026.

After this date, standard rates will be displayed, subject to availability.

Transport:Discounted Deutsche Bahn tickets for EUROMOST participants travelling in Germany by train (or if you need to book a train from the airport).

To avoid any inconvenience, please refrain from booking travel arrangements until you receive confirmation of your participation from us.

Food

Coffee breaks will be provided at the conference. Lunches are excluded.
