Opis

The convergency of technological, social and political trends (e.g. connectivity, automation, electrification, quantum computing, blockchains, new vehicle concepts, new social attitudes towards the provision and consumption of transport opportunities, new policy actions to fight or adapt to the climate change) provides a unique opportunity to rethink the transportation system and make it safer, cleaner, more efficient and more equitable in the next few decades ahead.
Crucial role of society and science
Whether this opportunity will materialise or not will however strongly depend on the capability of policy, industry, academia and citizens to work together towards a common goal. Will our society be apt to the challenge? The role of the scientific community in this process will be crucial. Decision-making to tackle climate-change and fighting against the Covid-19 pandemics have both counted on the evidence provide and the tools made available by the scientific community. The same must happen in the transport sector otherwise the risk to lose the one in a century opportunity to disrupt it will likely be lost.
Driving transformation of transport
In order to drive the transformation of the transport sector models and data are needed on the one hand to anticipate possible impacts of new mobility solution, and on the other hand to define the requirements of the future transport system to achieve the sustainable development goals set by our society. In particular, approaches to manage the ever increasing transport complexity in urban contexts with the interaction between traditional services any new mobility options are very much needed.
Submission of abstracts
Abstracts shall be submitted following the instructions available (including the template) at the following link: https://ec.europa.eu/eusurvey/runner/ISTDM
Submission of original contributions in the form of extended abstracts on the following topics are particularly welcome:
- Data collection and processing
- Innovative data collection approaches
- Big Data and Open Data initiatives (including safety applications)
- The contribution of machine learning and artificial intelligence
- Innovative research methodologies
- Using robots and scaled-down vehicles to design the future transport system
- Virtual testing methods for new mobility solutions validation
- Challenges in urban mobility modelling
- Mobility as a Service and complex trip-chains including micromobility
- Travel demand in the future mobility landscape
- The interaction of different modes (including safety aspects)
- Enhanced demand and traffic management
- Transport electrification
- Urban logistics
- Evolving transport impact on energy consumption
- Challenges in extra-urban transport modelling
- Traffic flow theory in the presence of different levels of vehicles’ connectivity and automation
- Transport safety and requirements for future systems
- Freight transportation
- Evolving transport impact on energy consumption
- Vehicle-infrastructure integration
Contributions on other topics relevant to the scope of the International Symposium on Transportation Data and Modelling will also be accepted.
Following the review process, a booklet of abstracts will be edited and published as European Commission Report.
In addition, presenters will be offered the possibility of submitting a journal version of their contributions to a Special Issue on Transportation Data and Modelling in a specialised journal.
Presenters will be selected on the basis of the information provided in the abstracts submitted. Each abstract shall clearly formulate the main messages the authors would like to convey to the audience.
Registration
ISTDM 2023 is open for participation to researchers and academics; transport infrastructure managers and owners; road transport operators; industry, vehicle manufacturers and suppliers; public authorities; governmental bodies; non-governmental organisations, other transport stakeholders.
Registration is free of charge and includes access to all symposium sessions, symposium material, lunches, coffee breaks and transport arrangements.

Venue and travel information
The Symposium will take place at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission located in Ispra (Italy). Due to the limited availability of public transport in the area, transport from the main hubs of the area to the symposium venue will be provided (Milan Malpensa, Milan Linate and Lugano airports, Milan Central Station and Lugano Railway Station). Also, the transport from/to the hotel and the social events location will be provided following the instructions in the registration process.
