Description
Improving transport efficiency is a major political objective of the European Union. Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) promise to play an important role towards this goal.
The European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) organises a dedicated two-day workshop to introduce participants from Enlargement and Integration (E&I) countries[1] to the possible implications that CAVs can have on road transport.

Objectives
- Update participants on the current policy strategy of the European Commission concerning the development of Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility.
- Present the evidence collected by the scientific community concerning the possible implications of a Cooperative, Connected and Automated Mobility on road capacity and transport efficiency.
- Discuss future trends in the road transport sector with specific reference to the situation in E&I countries
Background
Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs) are indeed expected to be safer and more energy efficient than existing conventional vehicles and to increase the road network capacity. However, the introduction of new technologies and solutions in the transport system has often unexpected consequences due to its intrinsic complexity.
The presence of a panel of well renowned scientific experts in the field will contribute to enrich the discussion on the possible implications that CAVs can have on road transport.
Venue
The workshop will take place in the ZalaZONE premises, in Hungary.
ZalaZONE aims to become in the next years the biggest and most sophisticated proving ground for Connected and Automated Vehicles. Participants will also benefit from a guided tour through the available facilities.
