The Covid-19 pandemic impacts on various aspects of human life. Most of those can be timely measured, like hospitalization, health, unemployment and income loss. This is in contrast to measurements of educational inequalities among pupils. Results consistently confirming Covid-induced rising inequalities in Europe are built on patchwork research covering only single countries or specific school and pupil related indicators. In addition, important data collection like through the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) is postponed, indicating that mapping of educational inequalities cross-nationally and regionally will not just be a problem in the short-term.
This is problematic, since governments, regional authorities and schools need to act immediately to tackle rising inequalities. Identifying successful practices of blended learning and strategies to help low performing students to catch up during and after the pandemic requires data.
This webinar brought together renowned academics who found different ways how to map educational inequalities in times of data lack. The webinar informed about current knowledge on the increase of educational inequalities in Europe and included a discussion on possible ways forward to map educational inequalities in more comprehensive and informative ways in the future.
