The Permanent Mission of Ghana to the United Nations, in collaboration with Japan, UN-DESA, EC/JRC, UNESCO and UNECA have come together to organize a High-level dialogue on the Partnership in Action on Science, Technology and Innovation for SDGs Roadmaps at the margins of the High-Level Political Forum 2021 (HLPF 2021).
This event is built on the work of the UN Inter-Agency Task Team sub-working group on STI for SDGs Roadmaps co-led by UN-DESA, UNESCO, EC/JRC, the World Bank, and UNCTAD. It is supported by Ghana and is co-organized with Japan, UN-DESA, EC/JRC, UNESCO and ECA.
The event will discuss the path forward for the Partnership in Action, following the successful inception of the Global Pilot Programme on Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) for the SDGs roadmaps. The Partnership in Action is conceived as a multi-stakeholder, informal technical group to support the STI Roadmap work in the context of the Technology Facilitation Mechanism. Its aim is to create political momentum, drive practical solutions, and mobilize public and multi-stakeholder engagement.
Description of the event
The 1.5-hour side event will be held virtually on the margins of the HLPF 2021. The first part of the event will be the occasion to share the main outputs of IATT on STI for SDGs Roadmaps, including publications, results from pilot countries, and other ongoing activities. Some countries participating in the Global Pilot Programme will share their experiences and achievements with participants. In the second part, the Chairs of the informal group of champion countries, supported by experts from Academia and representatives for countries willing to develop STI for SDGs roadmaps, will provide their reflections on the way forward, and suggest their perspectives on actions and mechanisms to scale up the work on STI for SDGs Roadmaps.
