Description
Designing the EU Sewer Sentinel System for SARS-CoV-2 (EUS4)
Bernd Manfred GAWLIK (EC JRC) and Gertjan MEDEMA (KWR, TU Delft) chair the fourth Town Hall Meeting on the World Water Day, the 22nd of March, 14:00-18:00 CET.
In its recent Communication "A common path to safe and sustained re-opening" the European Commission explicitly highlights the tracking the virus and its variants in wastewater.
Its Recommendation on monitoring COVID-19 and its variants in wastewaters in the EU asks the Member States to put in place wastewater surveillance systems and ensure that relevant data on the spread of the virus and its variants is promptly provided to the competent health authorities.
This event will give an insight into the specifics and background of the European Commission's recent Recommendation on monitoring COVID-19 and its variants in wastewaters in the EU, inform about the presence of SARS-CoV-2 variants in wastewater and launch the next steps, i.e. the construction of an EU Digital Data Platform for Collaboration, Data Collection and Decision Support.
Please note that the meeting will be recorded.
