Open webinar on the Biomedical Models Hub
Join us for a webinar hosted by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) focused on the Biomedical Models Hub (BimmoH), a comprehensive dataset of scientific articles utilising human biology-based models, such as organ-on-a-chip technologies, 3D cell cultures, and computational models, aimed at facilitating more human-relevant biomedical research.
During the webinar, we will explain how we used AI for the creation of the BimmoH dataset, providing transparency on the article selection process and our methodological approach, relying on robust machine learning techniques.
You will also learn to streamline research efforts and support innovation through practical applications of BimmoH, such as identifying state-of-the-art models on specific research topics, conducting biotech market analysis, and performing funding gap analysis.
Developed under a European Parliament Pilot Project, the initiative supports the EU's Three Rs principle for promoting animal welfare and sustainable innovation.
Webinar objectives
• Explain the process behind the creation of the BimmoH dataset.
• Demonstrate the use of the web application in specific contexts.
• Engage with users to provide support and gather feedback.

Description
The Biomedical models Hub (BimmoH) is the world largest dataset containing scientific article references making use of human biology-based models. Powered by AI, it consolidates information on a wide range of models based on human biology, including organ-on-a-chip technologies, 3D cell cultures, and computational models. By bringing together these resources, it enables researchers to design studies that are both relevant and translatable to human health.
The result is a comprehensive, curated collection of hundreds of thousands of resources that can significantly reduce research time and accelerate innovation, and that will be kept updated over time. Beyond academia, BimmoH offers value to regulators, policymakers, funders, and industry stakeholders. It can inform evidence-based decisions across areas such as drug development, safety assessment, and early-stage biomedical exploration.
This webinar will provide technical details on the work performed to create the BimmoH dataset, allowing full transparency on the article selection process. It will cover the methodological approach, going from data preparation to the identification of the best machine learning approaches for detecting the use of human biology-based models in biomedical research articles and indexing them, as well as the validation of the dataset.
It will also showcase concrete use cases to illustrate the added value of the brought by the BimmoH dataset for example to young researchers establishing the state-of-the art of models in their research topic, biomedical researchers looking up for available human biology-based models, Biotech market analysis, Gap analysis for funding programmes.
Developed under a European Parliament Pilot Project, the initiative also supports the EU’s Three Rs principle, reinforcing European leadership in animal welfare and sustainable innovation.
