In the framework of the pre-COP26 All4Climate - Italy 2021 initiative, comprising a series of climate events taking place in Italy throughout 2021, this online interactive event organised by the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) focuses on the EDGAR-FOOD database.

Developed and launched earlier this year, this inventory is the first global food emission database of GHGs covering all countries and sectors of the world's food system. This research shows that a third of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are related to food.

Participants

We invite representatives of civil society, youth movements, young activists, and citizens who are interested to understand the complexity of the food system and how food production contributes to the global greenhouse gas emissions to join.

Programme

The event will be an interactive virtual Q&A session, taking place from 12:00 to 13:00 CET on 30 September. Participants and representatives of Climate Pact Ambassadors will have the opportunity to exchange with the scientists that worked on this research: Monica Crippa and Adrian Leip from the JRC and Francesco Tubiello from the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.

Organised in the format "Ask a scientist", the discussion will revolve around the latest scientific findings in a multimedia form on how much our food contributes to global warming.
