Biography

Emilia Gómez is a researcher at the JRC interested in the impact of artificial intelligence in general (and machine learning in particular) in human behaviour (cognitive capabilities and decision making).

She is the Lead Scientist of the HUMAINT project (HUman Behavior and MAchine INTelligence in the Digital Transformation) at the Centre for Advanced Studies of the JRC.

Her research background is within the music information retrieval (MIR) field. She tries to understand the way people describe music and emulate these description with computational models that learn from large music collections.

She graduated as a Telecommunication Engineer at Universidad de Sevilla (Spain), where she studied classical piano performance.

She then received a DEA in Acoustics, Signal Processing and Computer Science applied to Music (ATIAM) at IRCAM, Paris (France) and a Ph.D. in Computer Science and Digital Communication at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona, Spain.

She has been visiting researcher at Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden), McGill University (Montreal, Canada) and Queen Mary University of London.

Emilia Gómez has co-authored more than a 130 scientific publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conferences, and contributed to several open datasets and software libraries. She is president of the International Society for Music Information Retrieval (ISMIR).
