Biography

Dr. Dora Mehn is a scientific project assistant at the Consumer Products Safety Unit of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre. Since 2014 she works on nanomaterial characterisation using various size separation and measurement methods like asymmetric and centrifugal field flow fractionation (FFF), size exclusion chromatography (SEC), dynamic light scattering (DLS), multi-angle light scattering (MALS), centrifugal liquid sedimentation (CLS), analytical ultracentrifugation (AUC), surface area analysis (BET).

She received her degree as a teacher of Biology and Chemisty in 1997 and her PhD in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Szeged (Hungary) in 2002. After post-doctoral fellowships at the University of Namur (Belgium) and the University of Szeged (Hungary) working on nanoparticle synthesis and characterisation she joined Solvo Biotechnology (Szeged, Hungary, 2005-2008) and worked as head of the fee for service screening laboratory. After 3 years as grantholder at the Joint Research Centre (Ispra, Italy, 2008-2011) and 2.5 years as researcher at the Fondazione Don Gnocchi (Milan, Italy) she became an official of the European Commission in 2014. Within JRC she gained research experience in microfabrication, neuronal stem cell research, in vitro toxicity testing, Raman microscopy and nanoparticle characterization techniques.
