The brief forecasts in how far educational inequalities increase during pandemic induced school closures. In addition, it investigates how home resources and parental support, the most important factors for home learning during school closure, differ by socio-economic background. It concludes that the educational achievement gap between children with higher and lower parental education is likely to increase by at least 5 percentage points. In addition, children who lack resources and support were already lower performers before the crisis, and they are likely to have lost further ground during the Covid-19 school closures, leading to an increase in European education inequalities.
